About this product

The city of Ashwind has fallen and the protective beacon of light that shields it from the shadows no longer burns.

Embark on the first of four adventures in the Era of Shadows, an AoU-inspired mini-campaign that asks your players to make difficult decisions about life, death, and morality in a land left in shadows, far from the protection of the gods.

In this first adventure, the party arrives at the once bountiful village of Ashwind to find it overrun by undead and must decide what to do when the fate of a powerful Oracle lies in their hands.

Bard & Raven — 5★

Beautiful art and a story hook and mechanics that inspires the players and GM alike. The document is well edited and prepared so that GMs should have a very easy time picking up all the necessary details without bloat. I also like the very atmospheric adversaries - cant wait to see how the story evolves in the next episodes/adventures!

Disclaimer: I'm one of the artists on the project, and I read through the early version of this adventure ahead of time. What I personally like about it will spoil it for the players, so do not read ahead if you are not a Game Master. SPOILER! What is interesting for me in such Dark Souls-inspired settings is the inevitability of complex moral choices, and we have it here. We have an Oracle, a figure of hope, that became corrupted, and this corruption links her to the magical Healer who came to save everyone. The problem is that he is no Healer, he is Undead, and Undeath is his cure. At the same time, when the party meets him, he is calm and collected, he will not lie, and it's a pleasure to play such a gallant but horrifying villain. And here comes the moral choice: if you kill him, the Oracle dies, too, you can't save the only hope the town has left and destroy the villain at the same time. We also get an important NPC, a townswoman, who lost her faith in the Oracle and wants her dead, but not by her own hand. It adds even more tragedy and complexity for your party to wrestle with. END OF SPOILER I don't know what the future of the series holds, but the first part, as a separate adventure, will result in a very tragic and dramatic one-shot.
