Dhampir

About this transformation

Vampires are a special type of parasitic organism in that they have evolved to lack a digestive system and instead rely on the most successful species ever to survive: humanoids. They do this by using their fangs to do a blood transfusion: humanoid blood coming in through one fang and vampire blood flowing out the other. This usually doesn’t kill the host, but it can cause damage due to a large drop in blood sugar levels after a significant amount of nutritious blood is lost. They are the ultimate apex predator and the reason humanoids fear the uncanny. Dhampirs are humans who were affected by the magical blood the vampire transfused into their body, making them neither humanoid nor vampire, lacking all the dark magic that makes vampires undead, allowing them to walk in the sun, among other things.

Features

Blood Suck

You have a bite attack that uses a trait of your choice and deals d8 damage in melee range. When you attack a creature with your fangs, you don't damage their health; you damage their stress and gain an equal amount of stress in return. If the amount of stress you gain exceeds your stress maximum, the overflow goes into your HP. With a consenting creature, you can trade your stress for theirs as you give them a blood transfusion. You cannot gain stress or HP from rests.
The damage increases to d10 at tier 2, d12 at tier 3, and d20 at tier 4.

Transformation questions

  1. During a long rest ask a recently converted player what kind of changes they undergo as their body removes a useless digestive system. Such as vomiting their stomach out and growing multiple kidneys and livers advanced blood filtration.
  2. Ask your players if this transformation makes them more keen to darkness and general gothiciness.
  3. Ask your players if some of the vampire weaknesses appear as minor side effects, like instead of garlic being deadly maybe it's causes tummy aches and taco bell level diaherrea but they just can't get enough of it. You can play a comedic Dhampir after all.
