A well-armed and armored soldier that makes up the rank and file of the armies of Thylea.
The Hoplite of Thylea is a citizen-soldier of one of the settler city-states. They are primarily armed with a spear (dory) and shield (aspis), though they also typically carry a short sword (xiphos) for use in close-quarters combat once their spear is lost or broken. They march into battle in disciplined lines and use their shields to cover half of the soldier on the left, expecting the same from the soldier that is on their immediate right. When fighting in a Phalanx, Hoplites present a nearly-impenetrable wall bristling with wickedly sharp bronze spear points.
(YMMV, I tend to slightly overtune my adversaries because my players really like a challenge haha)
If the Hoplite makes a successful standard attack and another Hoplite is within Very Close range of the target, deal 2d8+6 physical damage instead of their standard damage, and you gain a Fear.
Make an attack against a target within Very Close range. On a success, mark a Stress to move within Melee range of the target, dealing 3d6+2 physical damage and then knocking them back to Close range with your shield.
A creature who tries to move within Melee range of the Hoplite must succeed on an Agility reaction roll. If additional Hoplites are within Very Close range, the Difficulty increases by the number of additional Hoplites in range.
