Seasonal Shifts
The tree moves between the four seasons over the span of 24 hours. Start a countdown (loop 6). Each time the countdown triggers, the next season begins and the countdown resets. Time advances by 1 hour each time a player makes an Action Roll.
1. Winter (00:00-06:00): The branches are bare and shivering. Small iridescent pearls of sap form on the bark - delicious.
2. Spring (06:00-12:00): Verdant leaves grow and flowers blossom. The tree can be pollinated during Spring. (See "Fruits of Your Labor" below).
3. Summer (12:00-18:00): If the tree has been successfully pollinated, it will produce fruit. These ripen quickly but their lifespan is fleeting and they rot before Summer's end. (See "Fruits of Your Labor" below.)
4. Autumn (18:00-00:00): Leaves wither and fall.
Questions- How rapidly do seasonal transitions take place?
- How do the denizens of the courtyard respond to these shifts?
Actions
action-
The tree gives, the tree takes
Spend a Fear to cause the following effects, depending on the season:
Winter - There's nowhere for a humanoid to hide amongst the tree's leafless branches. Introduce an environment-appropriate adversary in Close range of a target. The adversary immediately gains the spotlight and can make two Action moves without spending extra Fear. You can spend a Fear to introduce an adversary in this way a number of times equal to the number of PCs.
Spring - The heady scent emanating from the tree's blossoms clouds the mind. PCs make all Instinct, Presence, and Knowledge rolls with disadvantage for the duration of the season.
Summer - The air grows hot and oppressively humid. Creatures in Very Close range of the tree must make a Strength Reaction Roll. On a failure, they mark a Stress.
Autumn - A decomposing leaf falls upon a PC, dealing 1d6 direct damage as black rot eats away at their skin. Plant-based creatures are unaffected.
Questions- Can the party mitigate these effects in any way?
-
Late Frost
Spend a Fear to advance the countdown by 1. This can be done up to two times per Spotlight.
Questions- What triggers the sudden change in season?
- Is the change heralded in any way?

Fruits of Your Labor
The tree bears flowers in Spring. If the flowers are pollinated, they mature into fruit in the Summer.
Spring: If a pollinator (such as a Hive Collector) is introduced to a blossom in Spring, that flower will develop into a fruit come summer. There are a number of blossoms equal to 1d4 + (Number of PCs/2).
Summer: Fruits ripen quickly. They must be gathered before the countdown reaches 1, after which they fall from the tree and decay. Fruits picked from the branch will rot at the end of the next Long Rest.
The fruits are delicious and juicy and they accelerate the body's metabolism. Players who eat one whole fruit during a Rest can make an extra Downtime Action that Rest.
You can have too much of a good thing: Eating more than one fruit per Long Rest gives the PC the Poisoned condition. While Poisoned, before making an Action rolls they must roll a d6. On a 1-4 they mark a Stress. The Poisoned condition can be cleared with a Knowledge Roll (16) or at the end of the next Long Rest.
Questions- Is there a way to preserve the fruit?
- What happens if you use one of the fruit to start a food fight with a party member?
