Warden of The Stars

Subclasses Designed by VGCKenny

About these subclasses

This is basically a conversion of the Circle of Stars Druid from 5e for Daggerheart. I think it’s more fluid, and dynamic, because you’re not locked into one choice, but the trade-off is that you have to be a little more strategic about when to use your abilities, because you don’t always have them. It is easy to get them back, but it depends on luck too. Overall, I think this works well.

Warden of The Stars

Spell trait: Instinct

Call upon the Stars to aid your allies, and become even more versatile while in Beastform.

Foundation
Tier 1

Starry Form: When you enter Beastform, place a number of tokens on this card equal to your Instinct trait. Whenever you roll with Hope, you may choose to place a token on this card instead. You may not have more tokens on this card than your Instinct Trait. When you exit Beastform, clear all tokens.

You may spend a token to activate the abilities below:

  • Archer-Make an attack against a target within Far range using your Instinct trait. On a success, they take d10 + your level Magic damage using your Proficiency.

  • Chalice-Clear 1 Hit Point on a creature within Very Close range.

  • Dragon-Reduce incoming damage by one Threshold.

Guiding Light: You may Help someone without spending a Hope a number of times per rest equal to your Instinct trait.

Specialization
Tier 2

Shining Star: Your Starry Form Improves:

  • Archer-When you make a successful attack, you may Spend a Hope to force the target to make a reaction roll (15). On a failure, they become temporarily vulnerable.

  • Chalice-When you use this ability on a creature, that creature gets advantage on their next roll.

  • Dragon-When you use this ability, you gain advantage on your next attack roll. If the attack is successful, you may add a level of Proficiency to the damage roll.

Wheel and Woe: At the beginning of each session, roll 1d6, and record the result. You may spend a Hope to add the result to a roll made by a creature within Far range. Mark a Stress to subtract the result from a roll made by a creature within Far range.

Mastery
Tier 3

Shooting Star: Your Starry Form Improves:

  • Archer-The damage increases to d12 + your level Magic damage using your Proficiency. On a successful attack, you may Mark a Stress to force the target to make a reaction roll (17). On a failure, their Difficulty is lowered by your Instinct trait.

  • Chalice-When you use this ability on a creature, they may also Gain a Hope, or Clear a Stress.

  • Dragon-You may now reduce incoming damage by two Thresholds.

Avatar of the Stars: Mark 2 Stress to enter Starry Form outside of Beastform. When entering Starry Form this way, you are forced out of Starry Form when you take your next rest, you mark Severe Damage, or you Mark your last Hit Point.
