Necromancer

Classes Designed by Jean-Claude Van Helsing • Art by Nerikson

About this class

Preserve Life and Cheat Death. These are the tenets of the necromancer, an arcane savant that seeks to unravel the primal mystery that binds mind, flesh and soul together so that they can prevent it from undoing itself or even stitch them back together, like a surgeon who cuts their patient open to save their life and then patching the cuts up.
While many fear necromancers as those who raise armies of the undead, that is only one half of their craft, and many of them choose to only animate temporary undead minions, calling upon the departed spirits for assistance and letting them return to their eternal rest once their task is finished.

Class features

  • Vital Harvest

    When you inflict damage to an adversary, you may mark a Stress to siphon the creature’s life force, thus acquiring a Vital Token for every point of damage inflicted, up to a maximum equal to 1 + your Proficiency. You may use these Vital Tokens in the following ways:

    ° Spend 1 Vital Token when you heal yourself or an ally with a spell or class feature. You heal an additional Hit Point;
    ° Spend 2 Vital Tokens to animate a temporary undead minion(see Rise and Serve).

    You may also choose to gain Vital Tokens by damaging yourself, but in this case you don’t need to mark a Stress, and unspent Vital Points last until your next rest.

  • Rise and Serve

    By spending Vital Tokens, you can conjure undead minions to fight or perform simple tasks for you. These minions have 1 HP, a Difficulty of 8 + your Proficiency, an attack bonus of +0, and a Melee attack that inflicts damage equal to twice your Proficiency. The minions can be Corporeal(inflicts Physical damage) or Spectral(inflicts Magical damage). Make a Spellcast roll to order a minion in combat. Undead minions last until your next rest, until they are slain, or until you dismiss them. You can have a maximum number of active undead minions equal to your Proficiency.
