Giant Ant Soldier (Sylvan Soldier, SRD p.82) Beeowulf (Homebrew Vault)

Features

Passives

passive
  • Bountiful Hive

When the PCs enter the giant underground ant hive, decide their objection. They either need to find a lost relic, rescue an ally who got captured or find an escape out of the hive or a combination of these options. Decide how many chambers should be explored, depending on how long the exploration should last: 3 chambers (1h), 5 chambers (2h) or 7 chambers (3h). The chosen objective can always be found in the last chamber.
When entering a new chamber, roll a d6 and compare the result with the below table to see the chamber’s content:
    1. loot/consumable (uncommon/rare consumbale, a weapon, armor, item, ...)
    2. boon (+1 Evasion, Advantage on Spellcast rolls, extra Armor Slots, ...)
    3. bane (Mark 1 Stress to Attack, Healing reduced by -1 [HP and Stress], Disadvantage on Movement rolls, ...)
    4. landmark (Hive Nursery, Ant Armory, Queen’s throne room, abadoned storage room, ...)
    5. NPC (blind Giant Ant, the Queen, lost Bumblebee, ...)
    6. Adversary

    Questions
    • What do you seek to achieve here?
    • How are you approaching unknown chambers?
  • Ant pheromone

When the PCs enter the hive, they may make an Action roll of their choice to apply ant pheromone to themselves to camouflage from the giant ants’ scent. On a success, they place a pheromone countdown (4) on their character sheet. Each time they make an Action roll to avoid detection, they gain a bonus of +2 but reduce the Countdown by 1. When the Countdown triggers, the bonus expires.

    Questions
    • How did you get access to the pheromones?
    • Is there another way you could hide from the ants?

Actions

action
  • Silent Patrol

Spend a Fear to let a Giant Ant patrol come across the PCs. They must succeed on a Group Finesse Roll to prevent detection. On a failure, they either mark 2 Stress each to escape again or get forcefully escorted out of the hive.

    Questions
    • Why did you not notice the patrol?
    • What is your emergency plan?

Reactions

reaction
  • Stalking Predators

When the PCs enter the hive, start a recurring Countdown equal to the number of players. Each time a PC rolls with Fear, the countdown ticks down by 1. When it triggers, summon a Beeowulf adversary and immediately spotlight it. If there is already a Beeowulf in play, they may immediately use their Stinging Paralysis feature without spending a Fear.

    Questions
    • Can you use these predators to your advantage?
  • Defending Ants

When a PC fails an Action roll with Fear, the Giant Ants notice the PC’s presence, pick them up, making them airborne and throw them up to Far range.
