Hiya. So I'm fairly new to the world of homebrewing -- I've always done a bit for my own campaigns and helped my players tweak things here and there but fully designing new classes etc. is unfamiliar territory. As I've been doing more and finessing my ideas it's got me wondering how do most people manage playtesting? Obviously you can just build a character and run it with a friend but since most TTRPGs are so in-depth and time consuming it doesn't feel like the most efficient approach, especially for something larger like a class or domain. Does anyone have any techniques for playtesting more efficiently? Or ways to do it solo?

This is all relatively new but for me I tend to try to stay within the range of other existing things and just give it a whirl at the table and see how it feels at play. So for me that's running a session and taking notes and then AFTER the session doing some math like average damage per combat per action/player and if something is off it normally shows up in the numbers. In D&D this felt easier with every playing taking a round of three actions but in DH with the spotlight system it's harder since not every player is taking an equal number of actions per spotlight.
