Our Commitment to Respecting the Darrington Press Community Gaming License
At Heart of Daggers, we love seeing your creativity flow, and we’re committed to keeping our community awesome, fair, and respectful. That’s why we ask everyone here to honor the Darrington Press Community Gaming License (CGL).
First Off, What’s the CGL?
The Community Gaming License (or CGL) is Darrington Press’s way of giving us – the community – the green light to use Daggerheart’s rules and mechanics in our own original creations. It helps protect your work, respects the creators of Daggerheart, and sets clear boundaries so everyone knows what’s okay and what’s off-limits.
When you share your creations on Heart of Daggers, you agree to these guidelines.
As a Creator, Here’s What You Need to Keep in Mind:
Be Original
Feel free to dive deep into the official System Reference Document (SRD) and use all the “Public Game Content” provided. But remember:
- No copying official artwork, logos, maps, or word-for-word text from official rulebooks.
- Stay away from published storylines and official campaign frames unless they explicitly say they’re open to the public.
- Don’t use the Darrington Press, Critical Role, or Daggerheart trademarks directly in your product’s title or artwork.
Give Credit Where It’s Due
If you’re selling or even sharing your creations for free, be sure to:
- Use the official community content logo clearly on your product’s front cover.
- Include the required legal statements and credit to Darrington Press on your product’s title page or footer. (check out the official logos and wording here.)
Keep it Honest and Respectful
- Never imply that your creation is officially endorsed by Critical Role or Darrington Press.
- Always stay positive and inclusive – no discriminatory, harassing, or offensive content.
- If you’ve modified something from open content, clearly state what you’ve changed.
Quick Checklist for Attribution
When you create content, always remember:
- Add the Darrington Press Community Content logo.
- Include a simple attribution statement: “This product includes materials from the Daggerheart System Reference Document 1.0, © Critical Role, LLC, under the terms of the Darrington Press Community Gaming License. More information at www.daggerheart.com.”
- Clearly state on your title page: “Darrington Press™ and the Darrington Press authorized work logo are trademarks of Critical Role, LLC and used with permission.”
A Few Important No-Goes:
- No using content from Daggerheart Playtest (The Void).
- No official artwork, videos, audio, or anything that’s not specifically allowed.
- Avoid misleading titles or covers – never suggest your product is official unless you clearly label it as “Compatible.”
- Don’t add extra restrictions if you’re sharing open content.
How We Keep Things Fair at Heart of Daggers
We occasionally review content to make sure everyone follows these guidelines. If something doesn’t quite fit the CGL, we’ll give you a heads-up and remove the listing if needed. Repeated or serious breaches might mean we sadly have to part ways.
If Darrington Press contacts us about a specific issue, we’ll quickly look into it and take fair, transparent action.
