Mama Mulusepa – Day Persona

Adversary overview

A distorted vision of the quintessential grandma, with bulging frog-like eyes, a mouth too-wide, and an apron embroidered with purple-flowered vines.

Mama Mulusepa was once a powerful Faint Divinity in the Fanewick region of the Witherwild campaign frame. She had many other names, the most common being “She Who Fulfills Guilty Pleasures and Abhorrent Desires.” Since the invasion of Haven she has reawakened and sightings have become increasingly common.

She has three forms, or “personas”: Day, Night and Hunger. During the week-long daytime, she appears as a docile old human grandmother who is eager to indulge your desires of food, drink, laziness and possessions. At night, she appears as a seductive forest dryad who aggressively insists on satiating inebriation, lust and sadism. The hunger persona appears as a giant slug, snail or salamander, sometimes with the head of an old woman, and it merely wishes to consume. It typically appeared at dusk, though it was known to appear at any time of day on rare occasions.

Mama Mulusepa’s Day Persona can be found in a mysterious cabin deep in the wilderness, where she is typically busy baking her irresistible cookies. She will attempt to entice as many visitors to eat her cookies as possible, thus gaining influence over them during future encounters. The Day Persona will fight only as a last resort. If she becomes threatened, she will find a way to get out of sight, and then mysteriously disappears.

{Mama Mulusepa in all of her forms will appear in “The Crypt of Contempt,” my upcoming adventure for the Witherwild campaign frame.}

Features

Passives

  • Relentless (2)

Mama Mulusepa can be spotlighted up to two times per GM turn. Spend Fear as usual to spotlight her.

  • Something's Not Quite Right

If a PC fails an action roll while in the presence of Mama Mulusepa, they must mark a Stress.

  • Have a Cookie

When you eat one of Mama Mulusepa's cookies, you heal 1d4 Hit Points, gain a Hope, and mark a Stress. If you smell Mama Mulusepa's cooking again, you must make an Instinct Reaction Roll (14) or be inexorably drawn to it.

  • Defeated But Not Dead

A Faint Divinity can be defeated, but not truly destroyed. When Mama Mulusepa in this form marks her last Hit Point, her flesh bursts into thousands of bees, wasps and flies. If even one vine survives, she will rise again after the next dawn.

Actions

  • Need a Nap?
    stress 1

Mark a Stress, and a psychic wave of soporific energy blasts outward and hits every target within Close distance of Mama Mulusepa. Each target must make a Presence Reaction Roll or immediately fall asleep. They will remain this way until they take damage or someone tries to wake them up, in which case they must make a successful Presence Reaction Roll (13).

  • Hungry?

Mark a Stress, and one target Mama Mulusepa can see within Far range becomes desperately ravenous. They take 1d10 points of damage due to hunger pangs and are Vulnerable until they eat something and mark a Stress.
