Sandwich Golem

Adversaries Designed by Railery • Art by Magic Sword Studios

Adversary overview

A nightmarish, furiously angry sandwich, and that was BEFORE it was brought to life by a spell gone wrong.

This adversary is based on the 5e Supplement by Dungeon in a Box/Skinny Minis “Cooking Quest: Roll for Sandwich” and is meant to be a imagining of the final boss of that one shot designed for Daggerheart. The thresholds and damage reflect a high stakes final battle against a silly sandwich boss, and thus are slightly overtuned but feel free to adjust these depending on how resource starved your party is.

After a cooking competition where the party is forced to fight monsters to create magical sandwiches, the competitions haughty judge proclaims them all inferior and cooks up his own sandwich. Unfortunately his magic goes awry and the sandwich comes to life, bigger and angrier than any sandwich has any right to be. This sandwich will spend its entire existence trying to turn the tables on the PCs. It’s an eat or eat world out there!

The adventure contains rules for creating magical sandwiches with beneficial temporary effects for the players, and the Sandwich Sickness passive ability is reflective of that. If you choose not to use that scenario in your Campaign Frame for this monster, ignore that passive and consider lowering the difficulty or HP of the boss.

Features

Passives

  • Relentless (3)

This adversary can be spotlighted up to 3 times per GM turn. Spend Fear as usual to spotlight them.

  • Aversion to Spice

Before the Sandwich Golem makes an attack, you can mark a Stress and roll a d6. On a result of 3 or higher, the target’s Evasion is halved against this attack.

  • Sandwich Sickness

When the Sandwich Golem is affected by an ability boosted by a magical ingredient or food, it must mark a stress and is becomes temporarily vulnerable to the attack.

Actions

  • Lettuce Eat You

When a PC marks HP from the Sandwich Golem’s standard attack, you can spend a Fear to force the target to mark an Armor Slot without gaining its benefits (they can still use armor to reduce the damage).

  • (Mayo) Spread Out
    fear 1

Spend a Fear to target every PC within far range with an attack using acidic condiment spray from the depths of the Sandwich Golem's body. Each PC must mark a stress and then make an agility roll against the Golem's difficulty. Those who fail take 2d12 + 7 damage and must mark an additional stress. If they cannot mark any more stress, in addition to the normal penalties, they lose a hope.
