Adversaries Designed by Bard & Raven • Art by Reparatus Art

Adversary overview

A hyena-folk chef with a vision. They won't just give anyone their precious edible art so you better be persuasive.

Karl, the Visionary Culinarian of the infamous hyena-folk crew “Laughtales”, is immensely proud of his art that he is producing every day in his kitchen. He creates the most inspired dishes and is not only a capable chef but also a baker and patissier. Visitors are prohibited from entering when he is creating art and he will fiercely defend his space. However, there is a big heart beating in his chest and he wont shoo away a hungry creature that is truly interested in his artworks.

Features

Passives

  • Art cannot be rushed

The Visionary Culinarian will not tolerate any intruders in their kitchen or even give up any of their food straight away. Start a Consequence Countdown (4) and a Progress Countdown (6). When the Consequence Countdown reaches 0, the Visionary Culinarian will kick the PCs out of their kitchen, if necessary with violence. When the Progress Countdown reaches 0, the PCs can choose any food on offer (see "Eat that and begone" Feature).

Actions

  • Stop distracting me

The PCs appearance distracted the Visionary Culinarian, so that they did not realize a process needed urgent care. Spend a Fear to let a pot dangerously bubble up or a jet of flame erupt from a pan. All PCs in Close range must succeed on an Instinct Reaction roll (12) or immediately mark 1 Stress. If none of the PCs succeeded this roll, tick down the Consequence Countdown by 1.

Reactions

  • Don't touch this

When the PCs do something that upsets the Visionary Culinarian like touching their utensils, trying to steal the food or messing with the cooking process, tick down the Consequence Countdown by 1.

  • Make yourself useful

When the PCs are trying to convince the Culinarian of their sincerity, try to help them in the cooking process, cleaning the kitchen or praise their work, they must succeed on an Action roll of their choice. On a Success w. Fear, tick down the Progress Countdown by 1. On a Success w. Hope, tick it down by 2. On a Critical Success, tick it down by 4.

  • Eat that and begone

Once the Progress Countdown reaches 0, the Visionary Culinarian will lift their reluctance and offer up some of their food.
Each PC may choose one of the below Consumables:
Honeybread Bun: Clear 1 HP and 1 Stress.
    Veggie Stew: Gain 2 Hope.
Lavender Scones: Increase your Presence by +1 until your next long rest.
Shell Jerky: Increase your Damage Thresholds by +2 until your next long Rest.
Gamblers Pastry: Roll a d6. On a 1, immediately gain a Scar. On a 6, gain a permanent HP slot.
