About this class
Mechanically, the Defender can be thought of as the mirror of the Ranger. Where the Ranger selects a Focus to attack, the Defender selects a Charge to defend.

Bodyguard
Spend a Hope and designate a target. That target is now your Charge. Until this feature ends or you make a different creature your Charge, you gain the following benefits regarding your Charge:
- You know precisely what direction they are in.
- When they would receive damage when they are Very Close, you can choose to receive the damage instead (any additional effects are still applied to the Charge, and if you were hit by the same attack then you would be choosing to receive the damage twice)

Unbreakable : Spend 3 Hope to gain two extra Armor Slots for the scene

Defender Subclasses
Choose either the Sword and Board or Arcane Defender subclass.
Sword and Board
Play the Sword and Board if you want to maximize your shield's utility
Foundation Features
- Wall of Iron: When you are wielding a shield, add your current number of unmarked armor slots to your armor thresholds.
Specialization Feature
- Deflection: When you are wielding a shield and you are within Melee range of your Charge, they can add your tier to their Evasion
Mastery Feature
- Protect Them All: You can select a second Charge. Each time you select a new Charge, you can select with of your previous Charges you are replacing.
Arcane Defender
Play the Arcane Defender if you want to protect with magic as well as steel

- Defensive Magic: You gain access to the Arcana domain if you don't already have it.
Specialization Feature
- Martial Magic: You can use your spellcasting trait to wield your primary weapon or offhand shield
Mastery Feature
- Hear Your Call: Your charge can call your name and a short sentence. As long as you are on the same plane of existence, you will hear them. There When You Need Me: You can spend Stress to teleport to your Charge's side - 1 Stress if they are Close - 2 Stress if they are between Close and Very Far - 3 Stress if they are Out of Range
