Mystic Hunter

About these subclasses

Wanted a Ranger subclass that played into the Arcane Archer and Fey Wanderer theme, really focusing on the fact that the Ranger is technically a magical class.

One of the things I like about Daggerheart design is that a lot of the playable options don’t force you to use specific weapons, domains, etc. but the mechanics will encourage you to lean toward a certain direction. The prime example I can think of for this is the Ranger’s Hope Feature, which lets you use the same result of an attack roll against 2 additional adversaries within the attack’s range- obviously this is best for weapons with a lot of range, but it doesn’t preclude any kind of weapon usage. I tried to capture that philosophy for this homebrew.

Spellcast Trait: Agility

Play the Mystic Hunter if you want to weave the magic of nature into your martial prowess.

Foundation

Primal Infusion: When you make an attack roll with a weapon that deals physical damage, you can choose to inflict magic damage instead.

Curving Shot: When you make a weapon attack roll against an adversary, you ignore disadvantage granted by cover and can target them even if they are behind a substantial structure, as long as there is an opening. (For example, you can bend a blade around a corner or loop an arrow around a tree, but you can’t attack someone behind a building with no open windows or doors.)

Specialization

Shot Between Worlds: When you succeed on a weapon attack roll that deals magic damage against an adversary, you can spend a Hope to force them to make a Reaction Roll (13), made with disadvantage if your attack was a Critical Success. On a failed Reaction Roll, teleport the target to another spot within Close range of their current position. You cannot teleport an adversary into immediate danger in this way. (For example, you can’t teleport them over a cliff, but you can teleport them to the edge of a cliff.)

Mastery

Gleaming Shot: Once per rest, when you succeed on a weapon attack that deals magic damage against an adversary, you can flood their senses with a gleaming array of colors, temporarily Stunning them. While Stunned, they can’t use reactions and take any other actions until they clear this condition.
