Ominous Origin

About these subclasses

Ominous Origin is a theme for Sorcerers that everyone wants to play eventually; something occult, eldritch, or otherwise channeling magic from a dangerous or otherworldly source. Mechanically, I wanted to give sorcerers a new temptation on how to use Channel Raw Power. The Dark Energy Surge is a potent and “free” AoE that you’ll want to use at the most dramatic moment.

Ominous Origin

Spellcast Trait: Instinct

Play the Ominous Origin to channel magic from dangerous, otherworldly sources.

Foundation

Dark Energy Surge: You can use following option when you Channel Raw Power: All adversaries within Very Close Range make a Reaction Roll (14). On a failure, they take d12 mag damage using your Proficiency, adding the level of the vaulted card to this damage. On a success, they take no damage and mark 1 stress.

Otherworldly Influence: During a long rest, if you choose to listen to the dark whispers, give the GM a Fear and gain 3 Hope.

Specialization

Abandon All Hope: While you have no Hope, add your Proficiency to all of your damage and spellcast rolls.

Pessimist: Whenever you would gain a Hope, you can clear a marked Stress slot instead.

Mastery

Terribly Good: At the end of a long rest, roll a d20. Until your next long rest, you can spend that d20, substituting it for your Fear die after seeing a roll of your duality dice. When you Channel Raw Power, reroll and refresh this D20.
