Weaponmaster

About these subclasses

Weaponmaster encourages heavy armor and weapons, which isn’t a specific feature you can find in the core options. Especially not for Rangers, who usually want to keep their Agility and Evasion high. I didn’t want to just give the subclass passive buffs, though: so they gain a boost that will make them consider when to use their Ranger’s Focus, and a trap ability that might Restrain an adversary at a clutch moment.

Weaponmaster

Spellcast Trait: Strength

Play the Weaponmaster to wield heavy equipment and ensnare your foes with traps.

Foundation

Heavy Artillery: Ignore up to two instances of your equipment reducing your Finesse, Agility, or Evasion. (for example, if a piece of equipment gave -2 Evasion and -1 Agility, that counts as 3 instances.)

Martial Expertise: You can wield any physical weapon using Strength instead of its usual trait. Additionally, when making a damage roll against your Ranger's Focus, you can reroll any 1s or 2s.

Specialization

Traps: Once per session, describe how an adversary stumbles into a trap you had an opportunity to set up. They make a reaction roll (16). On failure, they take 2d8 damage and are temporarily Restrained. On a success, they mark Stress.

Mastery

Commando: When you Critically Succeed on an attack roll, you can activate your Hold Them Off Hope Feature without spending Hope.

Focused Trap: Your Ranger's Focus automatically fails the reaction roll of your Traps Specialization feature, and the trap also makes them temporarily Vulnerable.
