Type

Impulses
Navigate the shifting passage and reach the next landing without being crushed

Environment overview

Massive blocks of the green marble grind against one another, sending sprays of mineral dust into the air and emitting a high-pitched, metallic screech

Potential adversaries

The Carrion-Eater Beetle

Features

Passives

passive
  • Shifting Blocks

Immense, smooth blocks of green marble that slide across the floor and walls, opening and closing the passage. At the start of each round, a player on the landing or in the passage must make a DC 13 Instinct (Dodge) check to avoid a shifting block. Failure results in taking d6 damage and being pushed 1 tile toward the nearest open passage/landing (or into the wall, taking an additional 1 Stress from near-crushing).

Actions

  • Crushing Walls

The passages are occasionally sealed entirely by the grinding walls.
If a character is on a tile that becomes sealed, they must immediately use an action to make a DC 15 Strength (Pull) check to escape the crushing pressure. Failure results in taking d8 damage and becoming Restrained until they succeed on the check.

  • Vibration

The powerful, deep thrumming emanating from the structure.
All ranged attacks and all actions requiring sustained concentration (e.g., healing a companion, attempting a complex Knowledge check) increase their DC by 2 due to the constant tremor.

About this environment

You emerge onto a small, square landing. Before you, the passage continues, but the geometry of the structure is now unnerving. The corridor ahead appears to be slowly, almost imperceptibly, shifting. Massive blocks of the green marble grind against one another, sending sprays of mineral dust into the air and emitting a high-pitched, metallic screech that cuts through the thrumming vibration.
