Red flowers on nearly every doorstep in Sedgewick, and nobody quite remembers why.
Three weeks ago, Ellen Reed poled out into Greywick Fen and asked Fiona, the marsh woman, to keep a family lullaby safe before she died. Fiona took it, and Ellen's last days were easier for it. Now her son Corwin is home, the song is gone from him too, and he wants someone to answer for it. He isn't the only one asking after Fiona. A woman in a white coat arrived first, carrying a notebook.
What the Cardinal Flower Protects is a one-shot for 3-5 players at Tier 1 (level 1), built to run in 2.75-4 hours. It's a direct sequel to Where the Watermint Grows, but it stands on its own. The party gathers the town's side of the story, crosses the fen by boat or by the old reed path, clears a ruin where pale lights gather over a cold hearth, faces the creature that guards the last stretch of water, and walks into a hearing where two countdowns race each other across the table.
Where do you draw the line between mercy and theft?
Content note: themes of grief, terminal illness, the death of a parent, and the threat of someone being taken against her will.
This is the second adventure in Nothing Truly Lost. Where the Watermint Grows comes first, and it's free here on Heart of Daggers.
