Strixwolf Alpha
A large creature with the body of a wolf and the head of an owl.
Motives & Tactics: Hunt, Isolate, Survive

A large creature with the body of a wolf and the head of an owl.
This is meant to be a scarier (and hopefully more interesting) version of the Strixwolf Mother for the Sablewood Messengers Quickstart adventure.
It is meant to be a small challenge for a small level 1 party (I ran it against a party of 2).
I recommend adding some supporting elements in the environment or some supporting adversaries.
In my campaign I had the PCs rescue a villager who was being hunted by this creature, so the intentions of the Strixwold was to run away with its prey, rather than killing the PCs, so I added an event mechanism to give the Strixwolf opportunities to succeed and some actions to allow the PC to distract the Strixwolf
If the Strixwolf makes a successful standard attack after moving at least very close distance, it deals +2 damage on that attack.
Spend a Fear to let out a piercing cry. PCs within Far range must make a Presence Reaction Roll. Targets who fail, become Dazed. A Dazed PC cannot take an action until they spend a Hope to remove this condition.
