The Crooked Spring Queen
Adversary overview
A twisted skeletal figure draped in a tattered white gown. Jagged antlers grow from its head, which is adorned in a crown of flowers, forever in bloom
“Come children, gather around,” invited the village elder. “Do we know what day it is tomorrow?”
The old woman chuckled as a cacophony of small voices stumbled through their answers.
“That’s right! It’s the spring equinox, a celebration of the end of winter and a time of rebirth. This year, our lovely Alexandra will be our Spring Queen! Who knows what that means?”
“She tells us to dance?” an unsure voice offered.
“That’s right, little one! When Alexandra commands it, we must dance! And we will continue to dance all the way until the sun goes down. Even if we are so tired we can barely hold ourselves up, we will dance.”
“What happens if we don’t dance?”
The old woman became gravely serious.
“We must. For the Dark Fey Prince will be watching and if he sees that we are not dancing, he will think that Alexandra is not the real Spring Queen. After all, what kind of Queen cannot command her subjects? And he will put a most dreadful curse upon her.”
The children’s eyes widened. Some looked ready to cry.
“But fear not, young ones,” the elder continued, smiling again, “for you are the most wonderful dancers in all the land! The Fey Prince will see our performance and be delighted! Now tell me, what are we going to do?”
“DANCE!!”
“For how long?”
“UNTIL THE SUN GOES DOWN!!”

Passives
-
Deceptive Glamour
When first revealed, the Crooked Spring Queen appears as a beautiful maiden in a white gown and crown of enchantingly sweet-smelling flowers. Any PC within Close range must make an Instinct Reaction Roll. On a success, they realize something is wrong and gain advantage on their next reaction roll. On a failure, they are lulled into a false sense of security and have disadvantage on their next reaction roll. The glamour disappears if the Queen attacks, uses any features other than Beckon, or becomes angry at a PC.
-
Unsuspecting Victim
All successful attacks the Crooked Spring Queen makes against an Enchanted target or while Cloaked deal direct damage.
Actions
-
Beckonfear 1
Spend a Fear to target a PC in Close range. The PC must succeed on a Presence Reaction Roll or become Enchanted and immediately move into Melee range of the Queen and begin dancing. While Enchanted, when the PC takes the spotlight, they must mark a Stress and continue to dance unless they succeed on an action roll to stop dancing (Instinct or Presence). The Enchanted condition ends if they are attacked. Every time the PC ends their spotlight while still Enchanted, the GM gains a Fear.
-
Petrifying Gazefear 1
Spend a Fear to stare at a PC in Close range, freezing them in place. The PC is Restrained until they succeed on any action roll that breaks the Queen's gaze. The Queen can have only one PC Restrained in this manner.
Reactions
-
Liminal Beingstress 1
When the Crooked Spring Queen marks HP, mark a Stress to slip into the space between realities, becoming Cloaked and teleporting to any location within Far range.
