When using the Veilburners for a Ritual downtime action, consume the candles and invoke a ritual to commune with an otherworldly being or spirit to ask one question. Make a Spellcast roll (15) and refer to the list below to define the answer: Critical Roll: The entity gives you a truthful answer and a clear path of action. Until your next rest, gain advantage on your next action roll that relates to the given answer. Success w. Hope: The entity gives you a truthful answer but remains vage on a potential path of action. Success w. Fear: You gain visions of a scene related to your questions but its interpretation is manifold. Failure w. Hope: The entity is not inclined to help. You can mark a Stress to reinforce your question. When doing so, gain a sensation related to your question, a smell, a sound or a feeling. Failure w. Fear: The entity is not please by your meager attempts of communication. It forces a payment from you - gain a Scar.

Eons ago, a witches’ coven envisioned a ritual that would allow them to alter the course of the future. To this end, they harvested the wax of the Veilbees, insects that build their hives between dimensions, and used it to craft a set of unique ritual candles: the Veilburners.
The candles proved so potent that covens from across the land waged war over the secret of their creation. In the end, this conflict caused the downfall of the original coven and, with it, the knowledge of how to make them.
Today, little is remembered of the witches’ war. However, the Veilburner candles endure, their magic undiminished across all those long years.
