About these subclasses

I wanted to create a subclass that embodies the flavour of Divinatory magic while building on Daggerheart core mechanics. The School of Augury is built around the Wizard’s Strange Patterns feature and influencing Duality Dice rolls for you and your allies. It does so using a Dice Pool mechanic (like the Slayer Dice) that accumulates when Strange Patterns triggers, and it also empowers this feature so that it triggers more reliably.

The specialization card gives Strange Patterns a support role, sharing with your allies the Hope and Stress benefits that only the Wizard got before. The mastery card includes the powerful ability to switch the results of Hope and Fear Dice, and it’s possible to employ it on the Risk It All move, but only for allies, reflecting the flavour of an oracle not being able to change their own fate.

The subclass also has built-in progression for the Seer Dice, increasing its ability to affect dice rolls. The reason to have a high starting dice (d8) and progress up to a d12 is that Strange Patterns is still, at the end of the day, a chance-based mechanic, and it is technically possible to not trigger it for a whole session, so I wanted to make it feel impactful when it does.

In general, it’s a support-focused subclass for the Wizard, in contrast to the core subclasses which only focus on enhancing the wizard’s own capabilites. Art from NASA Image Library, Carina Nebula.

Spell trait: Knowledge

Play the School of Augury if you want to wield the power of prophecy, using your knowledge of fate to bend it to your will

Foundation
Tier 1

Seer: You gain a pool of dice called Seer Dice. When your Strange Patterns feature activates, you can also place a d8 in this card, adding the die to the pool. You can store a number of Seer Dice equal to your Spellcast trait. When you or an ally within Far range rolls their Duality Dice, you can spend a Seer Dice and add the result to the roll. At the end of each session, clear any unspent Seer Dice on this card.

Prophecy Foretold: You can choose 2 different numbers as part of your Strange Patterns feature.

Oracle's Favour: Your Seer Dice increases to a d10

Shared Destiny: Once per long rest, choose an ally and read their fate as a downtime move. Until your next long rest, they also benefit from your Strange Patterns feature on their own rolls, gaining one Hope or clearing a Stress when it activates. When this happens, they also generate Seer Dice for you.

Mastery
Tier 3

So Mote It Be: Your Seer Die increases to a d12.

Weaver of Fate: Once per session, you can switch the results of an ally's Hope and Fear dice.
