Heart of Daggers June Update

June Platform Updates

Hey everyone 👋🏼 Matt here from Heart of Daggers.

We’ve been working on another round of updates focused on making Heart of Daggers smoother, faster, and more enjoyable to use during actual play. This update brings improvements to custom inventory creation, clearer Homebrew item handling, live Game Master inventory updates, and a more polished Character Creator flow.

We’re also getting ready to launch Legend subscriptions for Heart of Daggers later this year, and before the full announcement goes out, we’d love to share where we’re heading and hear your thoughts.

As always, a lot of this work comes directly from community feedback, so thank you for continuing to help shape the platform.

Under-the-Hood Platform Improvements

A major focus of this update has been improving the foundation of Heart of Daggers.

We’ve made a range of behind-the-scenes improvements designed to make the platform faster, more stable, and easier to expand as new Daggerheart content arrives.

This includes important preparation for the upcoming Hope & Fear expansion. Once that content releases, our goal is to have it up and running on the platform within a couple of days.

You should notice faster load times across key parts of the platform, along with more reliable performance during character creation, inventory management, campaigns, and general platform use.

Massive Homebrew Support Update

This is a big one.

Starting today, you can now add custom trackers to your Homebrew classes, subclasses, ancestries, and communities.

Ability and resource tracking has already existed for Core choices, but now Homebrew creators can finally set up those same kinds of tracked features for their own creations.

That means you can create a Homebrew feature with a resource or ability limit that tracks based on things like:

  • Character proficiency
  • Character tier
  • Character level
  • A custom number that you set

For example, if you create a Homebrew subclass feature with limited uses, you can now set that feature up to be tracked directly on the Character Sheet.

Even better, these trackers are automated. When your character takes a short or long rest, the relevant resources reset automatically based on how you set them up.

This should make Homebrew characters much easier to manage during play.

This feature has been in the works for a long time, and it has been one of the most requested Homebrew improvements from the community. We’re really excited to finally get it into your hands. 🙂

Quick Homebrew Creation from Character Sheets

You can now create custom inventory items directly from your Character Sheet.

Weapons, armor, general items, and consumables can now be added using the same streamlined creation flow available in the Homebrew Vault. This makes it much easier to quickly create something custom during character building, campaign prep, or even mid-session when your GM hands you something unexpected.

When creating a custom item, you can choose whether to save it only to that specific character or add it to your Homebrew Vault for future use.

This should make one-off character items much easier to manage, while still giving players and GMs the option to build up their reusable Homebrew collections over time.

Clear Homebrew Item Labels

Homebrew items in character inventories are now clearly marked, making them easier to identify at a glance.

If a Homebrew item also exists in your Homebrew Vault, you can quickly open its vault page directly from the character inventory. This should make it much easier to review, edit, reference, or reuse your custom creations without needing to search around for them manually.

It is a small quality-of-life improvement, but one that should make inventories feel cleaner and easier to manage as your characters collect more custom gear.

Live Game Master Inventory Updates

Items sent by a Game Master now appear live in a player’s inventory with no refresh required.

That means surprise loot drops, quest rewards, strange cursed objects, mysterious letters, and sneaky inventory additions are now much smoother to manage during a session.

This should make it easier for GMs to hand out items in real time while keeping players focused on the game instead of asking them to reload their sheet.

Character Creator Flow Improvements

The Create Character flow has received a range of new UI improvements designed to make character creation smoother, more intuitive, and more enjoyable to use.

We’ve been adding more polish, clearer interactions, and a few fun visual updates that help make the whole process feel better from start to finish. Character creation is one of the most important parts of the platform, so we want it to feel exciting, easy to follow, and satisfying to use.

We’ve also laid the groundwork for upcoming Hope & Fear content. Once it releases, our goal is to have it up and running on the platform within a day or two.

That preparation work should make future content updates much faster to support, while also helping us keep the Character Creator flexible as Daggerheart continues to grow.

Level Up Advancement Flow Improvements

The level up advancement flow inside the Character Sheet has been greatly improved.

It now walks players through the relevant advancement sections step by step, including experience, traits, additional ability selections, and more. This should make leveling up feel clearer, more guided, and much easier to follow.

Selecting an additional ability card is now also much more visual. You can view the full ability card and its feature description before making your selection, which makes it easier to understand your options and choose the advancement that best fits your character.

Improved Spotlight Request Tracking

The spotlight request button now shows a list of players who have requested the spotlight.

This gives Game Masters a much clearer view of who is waiting and makes it easier to decide the flow of spotlight requests during play. Instead of guessing who asked first or trying to track it outside the platform, GMs can now see the request list directly.

Players can also see the spotlight request list alongside their Character Sheets, making the whole process clearer for everyone at the table.

A First Look at Legend Subscriptions

We’re also getting ready to launch Legend subscriptions for Heart of Daggers, and before the full announcement goes out, we’d love to hear your thoughts.

We’re aiming to launch Legend later this year.

Legend will be a way to support the platform, unlock unlimited creations, and receive extra perks. Some of the perks we’re currently exploring include:

  • Exclusive Discord channels
  • Legend border effects
  • Alpha and Beta access to new tools
  • Early announcements
  • Additional storage space
  • Higher upload limits
  • More ways to support the long-term growth of Heart of Daggers

As Heart of Daggers continues to grow, we want Legend to grow with it.

That could also include future perks like expanded content-sharing features, if we receive approval from Darrington Press.

Free Users Will Keep Access to the Platform Tools

To be very clear: no tools or features are being locked behind a paywall.

Free users will continue to have access to the same platform tools and features.

Legend is not about taking existing tools away from the community. We want this to be an avenue for people who love the platform to support its future, while receiving extra perks, quality-of-life benefits, and early access opportunities in return.

Supporting Creators Long-Term

A big goal of getting Legend up and running is to help keep Heart of Daggers sustainable long-term.

It also allows us to work toward reducing the Marketplace commission we take from 15% down to 10%.

That means creators would earn 90% of their sales, which would be an industry-leading commission rate.

Supporting creators has always been a huge part of what we want Heart of Daggers to do well. If Legend helps us reduce platform commission while continuing to improve the tools, that feels like a strong win for the whole community.

We’d Love Your Feedback

Before Legend officially launches, we’d really love to hear what the community thinks.

How does this feel?

What perks would make Legend more exciting?

Is there anything you think we should be mindful of as we roll this out?

Please share openly. As you know, we truly value what this community thinks, and a lot of the best platform improvements have come directly from your feedback.

Final Thoughts

This update brings some really useful improvements to inventories, Homebrew item management, live GM tools, and the Character Creator flow.

At the same time, Legend is an important step toward making sure Heart of Daggers can keep growing in a sustainable way while continuing to support creators, players, and Game Masters.

Thank you to everyone using the platform, sending feedback, reporting issues, creating content, and helping shape where Heart of Daggers goes next.
