A Certain Painter
The painter of a certain world. A secret encounter.
Motives & Tactics: The continuation of her world's story., To paint the landscape of her desire., To paint the portraits of her foes., The last gasp of that world's Light.
The painter of a certain world. A secret encounter.
Formally a T3, but its stats and abilities make it into something closer to a 3.5.
This adversary can be spotlighted up to 3 times per GM turn. Spend Fear as usual to spotlight them.
This unit generates the unique resources "Shin" (max 5) and "Mang" (max 3).
At Encounter Start, generate 1 Shin.
When an enemy attack causes this unit to mark HP, generate 1 Shin.
When an allied unit is defeated, generate 1 Shin.
When this unit applies an experience to its action, generate 1 Shin.
When this unit's HP has been reduced to 10, generate 1 Shin.
When this unit's HP has been reduced to 5, generate 1 Shin.
For every 1 Shin on self, this unit increases its difficulty by 1 (max 3).
For every 1 Shin on self, this unit decreases damage taken by 3 (max 15).
At maximum Shin, convert any Shin generated into Mang.
Do not gain Mang until Shin is at maximum.
When an enemy unit is defeated, gain 1 Mang.
For every 1 Mang, this unit increases its attack modifier by 1.
For every 1 Mang, this unit increases the damage dice of "Paint" by 1 level (d6 --> d8 -->d10).
When a unit is inflicted with this condition, the following effects are inflicted upon them permanently:
Attacks against enemies who can see the Mark are at disadvantage.
Attacks against enemies who know about the Mark are at disadvantage.
Take double damage from enemies who can see the Mark.
Take double damage from enemies who know about the Mark.
The player can spend 1 Hope to reverse these effects whenever they would occur, turning disadvantage into advantage, or double damage into half damage. They must spend this Hope each time this would occur.
(Based on Eternal Enervation)
While this unit has Mang, when it successfully hits an enemy target, apply 1 Enmity to its target.
(Based on Sigil of Retribution)
This unit does not spend Fear to activate each of its experiences the first time each one is used.
Upon using this ability, A Certain Painter paints and summons a version of the target that made a different choice along the way. This painting appears to be the target rendered in oil painting, with aesthetic changes reflecting the worlds they came from. These versions of player characters are sentient and have the memories of the lives which they have taken, but fight on A Certain Painter's side, and seem to dissolve into harmless splashes of paint when A Certain Painter is slain. This ability can only target each player once.
Summons from A Portrait of Another You have advantage against the player character they mirror, and disadvantage against all others. Likewise, players have an advantage against their mirror image, and disadvantage against all others.
Summons from A Portrait of Another You generate the unique resource, "Shin" or "Distortion" depending on their alignment with the Light.
On Summon, each summon generates 1 Shin/Distortion on self.
For every 1 Shin on self, this unit increases its difficulty by 1 (max 2).
For every 1 Shin on self, this unit decreases damage taken by 3 (max 9).
For every 1 Distortion on self, targets hit by this unit must mark 1 Stress or spend 1 Hope.
(Based on Create Construct)
Upon using this ability, all summons of A Portrait of Another You are immediately spotlighted.
A Certain Painter swings her brush, dividing the world into separate landscapes. Any players with A Portrait of Another You active are isolated into spaces with their mirror image, and are unable to attack any target outside of their personal landscape. Upon causing their mirror image to mark 1 HP, the player can immediately spend 1 Hope to break the boundary, returning both themselves and their mirror image to the real world.
(Based on Manifest Wall)
Consume 1 Mang on self. A Certain Painter swirls her brush in the air, and rays of Light shine down from the sky.
Target all units with Enmity.
For each Enmity currently applied to themself, the target takes 1d20 damage (max 4d20).
If the target spends a Hope, the target may choose to either take no damage from this attack, or take half damage and clear a number of Stress equal to Armor and HP slots marked.
(Based on Stunning Sunlight)
Usable only at maximum Shin.
Consume 1 Mang on self.
A Certain Painter banishes one player character, attempting to send them into a different world. Change that player's Environment to Swirls of Oil.
Usable only at maximum Shin.
Generate 1 Mang on self.
A Certain Painter sweeps her paintbrush in a wide arc around herself, painting the world around. All enemies within Very Close range can choose to either take damage as if struck by Paint, or are pushed back to Far range. All allies summoned by A Portrait of Another You in Very Close range instead gain 1 Shin/Distortion.
(Based on Rune Circle)
When this adversary makes a successful attack against a PC, you gain a Fear.
At maximum Mang (3), this unit spends 1 Stress and, and then moves towards the nearest enemy target, activates the experience, "The Light of this world is with me. I will not falter now." to attack with Paint without using Fear. Upon successfully hitting the target, the target can either choose to take double damage, or take normal damage and become Restrained and Vulnerable until they next mark an armor slot or HP - and then consume all Mang on self. The Vulnerable and Restrained conditions are inflicted even if Armor Slots reduce the injury to Nothing.
If the target successfully evades the attack, A Certain Painter consumes 2 Mang on self, and then spends 3 Fear. The target then gains 1 Hope.
This ability activates whenever an attack would cause A Certain Painter to mark their last HP.
The world instantaneously freezes, derendering into a rendition of an oil painting.
The Light fades.
A Certain Painter is on the verge of dying. She says her last words, a farewell full of regrets and unwillingness.
Mark the last HP. Consume all Shin and Mang.
Mark all surviving player characters with "Mark of a World's Enmity", and then die.
(Based on Timejammer.)
When an enemy unit causes this unit to mark at least 1 HP, this unit attempts to move into Very Close range and then attack with Paint. If it is successful, deal damage as normal - and then the target marks as many Stress as they would have marked HP, before applying Armor Slots.
When an enemy unit attempts and fails an attack or hostile spellcast against this unit within Far range, this unit swings its paintbrush, tracing the trajectory back towards the enemy unit, and makes an attack roll. On a success, the damage and conditions which would have been inflicted on this unit by the triggering attack are instead inflicted upon the enemy.
