Mer are aquatic humanoids that dwell in the depths of the ocean, with fish-like gills, webbed hands and feet, and smooth, scaly skin. They are typically about 5-6 feet in height and the variety among them is vast, as their skins can range in the shades of almost every color. Their gills allow them to breathe underwater, while their webbed hands and feet and the fins on their bodies allow them to swim gracefully through the waves. They can display the physical traits of all kinds of aquatic lifeforms, such as having shark-like teeth, the hard carapace or claws of crustaceans, octopus tentacles, seaweed hair, or coralline growths on their bodies. Mer are naturally drawn to bodies of water and they hate parting with their preferred home. While they don't dislike the land and often travel on the surface, they tend to avoid dry regions and always bring a means of sustaining the moisture on their skin and keeping themselves soaked.
