Pillars of Lightning Step
Matching sigils appear 100 feet above, one at the base of each hovering platform. Beams of radiant light erupt upward from the floor to their corresponding points above, like three vertical, invisible columns of power, lit at both ends. The first time a PC touches one of these pillars of energy, they take 1d6 points of Direct Magic (electrical) damage, and the beam attunes to them. While attuned to that PC, they can move into its space and make a Presence Roll to Lightning Step up to the connected platform above. On a success with Hope, they Lightning Step without a problem. On a success with Fear, the PC must mark a Stress or take 1d6 Direct Magic (electrical) damage. On a failure, the PC marks a Stress and takes 1d6 Direct Magic (electrical) damage. Regardless if the PC succeeds or fails, they will Lightning Step up to the connected platform above. The gateway remains active on top of each pillar until the PC steps back through, in which they are automatically ejected back to the floor, appearing at the base of the pillar.
Questions- What are these pillars of energy doing?

Eldritch Conduit Priests
Three Conduit 'Priests' sit in alcoves on each of the floating platforms. Their deep, melodic chanting reverberates throughout the space: a strange, harmonic drone in an unknown tongue, layered with primal resonance. Choose one of the following effects, you can choose an additional effect for each Conduit Priest still alive:
- Choose one Adversary, spotlight it, they gain advantage on all attacks.
- Choose one Adversary, spotlight it, they deal an extra 1d10 damage on a successful attack.
- Choose a target within Far range and temporarily Curse them. While the target is Cursed, you can spend a Fear when that target rolls with Hope to make the roll be with Fear instead.
- Choose a PC within Far range, reduce the PCs Hope Die to a d10, until they roll a success with Hope, or until you use this effect again.
- Make an attack against X targets within Far range. Spend a Fear to deal 2d6+3 magic damage to targets the Conduit Priests succeeded against. X equaling the amount of Conduit Priests still alive.A PC can make a Presence Roll or a Strength Roll to destroy a Conduit Priest. On a success with Hope, the Conduit Priest is destroyed. On a success with Fear, the Conduit Priest is destroyed but the PC marks a Stress as well. On a Failure, the PC marks a Stress and you gain 1 Fear.

The Ritual
Countdown (3). When A PC steps into the center of the chamber and approaches the body, the ritual to open a rift to another realm begins, activate the countdown. The countdown ticks down for every Fear you gain from a PCs roll. When it triggers, a burst of raw electrical energy rips through the room via the metal cables and crystal alcoves, exploding out of the pillars; PCs must make a Agility Reaction Roll. On a Failure, the PC takes 1d6 Magic (electrical) damage and marks a Stress. Something presses a mouth against the veil between realms and vomits onto the corpse in the center and 1d6 Eldritch Festerlings (Tangle Brambles) are summoned; dropping through the rift and into the chamber. Reset the Countdown (3).
Questions- What is going on?
- What is on the other side of this veil?
-
Eldritch Possession
Countdown (3). When the Ritual begins, activate a second countdown. Each time the corpse at the center of the ritual is coated in bile, it begins to convulse violently as tentacle like appendages burst from its sides, before the body falls dormant again. When it triggers, the corpse rises, now transformed into a new entity, and joins the fight. Summon an Eldritch Possessed Hulk (Patchwork Zombie Hulk) in place of the corpse. If all three Conduit Priests are defeated, the countdown ends with no effect as the ritual fails.
Questions- What will happen if this creature is unleashed?
- Why is this happening?
-
Protect the Conduits
If an Action Roll to destroy a Conduit Priest is rolled, you can spend a Fear to give disadvantage on the triggering roll. If there is only one Conduit Priest left, you can spend a Fear to cause a successful roll into a failure.
Questions- What doesn't want you to succeed?
- What would happen if you did?
About this environment
The stone floor begins to glow with an unnatural red-green radiance. A massive ritual circle appears beneath the party’s feet, composed of intricate sacred geometry: overlapping circles, inner rings, and symmetrical symbols. A large triangle overlays the design, its three tips piercing the outer edge of the circle. At each of those points, an additional sigil flares to life, each linked to a platform above. The ruined form of someone lies at the center of the triangle, perfectly positioned in the central node of the geometric pattern, their blood filling the geometry and fueling the ritual.
