At the start of the event, start an Escape countdown (3). The victim is unable to escape or defend themselves, because of a physical impediment (a fallen log, a snare trap, a choking vine, etc). A PC can describe their attempts to help the victim get to safety and make a roll with the most appropriate ability. On a success, the PC can spend a Hope to tick down the countdown. When the countdown triggers, the victim has been successfully freed form their restrains and escapes out the the predators reach.

    • Does the victim run into any new threats while escaping?
  • Get away!

At the start of the event, start a Hunter countdown (4). Whenever the PCs fail an roll, tick down this counter, and the predator makes progress in securing their prey. When the countdown triggers, the victim is beyond salvation, and the event ends.

    Questions
    • Is the predator intention to run away with their prey?
    • Is the predator intending to keep the prey alive?
  • Hey, over here!

A PC can describe how they catch the predator's attention away from their prey and make a Roll with the most appropriate Ability against the predator's Difficulty. On a success, the predator becomes Distracted. While the predator is Distracted, the Hunter countdown cannot tick down. On their activations, the predator can only take actions that target the PC who inflicted the Distracted condition on them. Remove the Distracted condition after the predator has taken an action. The predator can only be Distracted by one PC at a time.

About this environment

This is a kind of generic event meant to be run in a forest, jungle of other wild environment.

The intent is the PCs will try to save the innocent victim, while the predator will simply try to secure their dinner and will likely flee and search for other meal if the PCs become too much trouble.

I ran it with a Strixwolf Alpha and a party of 2 L1 PCs, the intent is the event to be an entertaining challenge to, get them started, but with many ways to overcome it quickly (kill/scare the Strixwolf, rescue the victim)
