Aggressor • Banneret • Templar

About these subclasses

These subclasses (and the main class) are heavily inspired by the Crusader in Darkest Dungeon. The Aggressor is for those who wish to play a more combat-oriented role at the frontline, the Banneret is for those who wish to lean into a more supportive playstyle in the midst of battle, and the Templar is for those who wish to play a character that can withstand more hits than usual.

Aggressor

Spellcast Trait: Strength

Play the Aggressor if you want to cleanse the wicked and purge foes with holy flame.

Foundation
Holy Lance: When you have an equipped weapon with a range of Melee or Very Close, you can wreathe it in fire. When you succeed on an attack roll with the weapon, you can spend a Hope to ignite it, dealing an extra 1d10 magic damage.
Zealous Accusation: When you make a Presence Roll against someone who has committed injustice against you or your allies, you can add your Strength to the roll.
Specialization
Reap: When you use your “Holy Lance” feature, you can temporarily Burn the target. A target that is spotlighted while Burning must make a Reaction Roll (13). On a failure, they take 1d10 magic damage or mark a Stress as the flames further envelop their body. If the flames defeat the target, gain a Hope.
Mastery
Flame and Damnation: Once per rest, when you use your “Holy Lance” feature, you can choose to spend all your Hope, dealing an extra 1d12 magic damage for each Hope spent. If the attack defeats the target, nothing is left of them but a pile of smouldering ashes, and you can remove Fear from the GM’s Fear pool up to the adversary’s Tier.
Banneret

Banneret

Spellcast Trait: Presence

Play the Banneret if you want to be a martial who emboldens their allies against all odds.

Foundation
Inspiring Cry: When an ally within Close range fails with Fear, you can spend a Hope and describe how you raise their spirits. When you do, your ally can gain 1 Hope or clear 1 Stress.
Rallying Cry: When you succeed with Hope on an attack roll, you can mark a Stress and yell a tactical order towards an ally within Close Range. When you do, that ally gains advantage on their next attack roll.
Specialization
Battle Heal: When an ally within Close range takes at least Major damage, you can mark a Stress to describe how you quickly come to their aid and tend to their wounds. When you do, they clear 1 Hit Point. You can’t heal the same target again this way until your next long rest.
Mastery
Zealous Speech: The range of your “Inspiring Cry” and “Rallying Cry” features increases to Far.
Unshakable Leader: If you have no current uses of your “Bulwark of Faith” feature left, you can spend 1 Hope to use it again. The cost to use it this way increases by 1 Hope per additional use and resets back to 1 on a long rest.
Templar

Templar

Spellcast Trait: Strength

Play the Templar if you want to be a paragon of divine fortitude and will.

Foundation
Zealous Conviction: After a long rest, place a number of tokens equal to your Spellcast trait on this card. When you would roll with Fear, you can spend a token from this card to change it into a roll with Hope instead.
Specialization
Tenacity: When you would mark a Stress or a Hit Point, you can instead spend 2 tokens from your “Zealous Conviction” feature. In addition, when you take a short rest, you can use your “Zealous Conviction” feature as a downtime move.
Mastery
I Will Not Fall: After you use your “Bulwark of Faith” feature, you can describe how a renewed surge of energy or resolve settles into your body. When you do, immediately clear a number of Hit Points or Stress equal to your Spellcast trait (you can divide the value between Hit Points and Stress however you’d prefer).
