Ancythra - The Ever-Expanding Pocket Dimension
I created the original Ancythra map in 2021, and decided recently it needed a “glow up”, pun intended :) So, I went about remastering it over the past couple of weeks, putting roughly another 10 hours of work into it. The result is much improved.
The Lore:
Lore-wise, Ancythra began as a regular Pocket Dimension, which is another dimension that is usually rather small and self-contained. But this particular dimension has somehow grown over time, just as our real-life universe does. Constantly expanding outward. More, and more, sometimes absorbing other pocket dimensions into itself, resulting in some odd fusions and plenty of magical weirdness. Over time, Ancythra has expanded and mutated, and has become a small continent, floating and rotating in the Astral Plane of existence. Pieces often break off as it grows, but its rate of growth is still greater than the rate of loss.
It also has portals to other Planes as well, making Ancythra something of a "cross-roads" between other worlds and dimensions. Similar to the City of Sigil in the Forgotten Realms, probably known best from Planescape: Torment.
This map would fit well into most existing Daggerheart campaigns, as it’s a separate dimension from the worlds you are already playing in. It's a small continent that can be added in as a new place for your players to visit, almost like an “expansion pack” for your ongoing games. At least, that’s how I like to think of it! :)
What's Included:
- Ancythra - Fully Labeled
- Ancythra - No Labels
- Ancythra - Fully Labeled (No Upscaling)
- Ancythra - No Labels (No Upscaling)
- Ancythra - Photoshop File
Regarding the Photoshop File: The Photoshop file allows you to edit all of the text labels, the title, the scale bar, location icons, the roads, and a few of the optional components as well (the border, background stellar objects, the red/green shade faces, and the Orb).
It DOESN’T allow you to edit the terrain however. If you need a specific alteration to the map, I am happy to do so for free if it's a quick change. For any substantial changes needed, send me a message and we can work something out.
The font I used for all of the text labels is Sylfaen, which is a font most people should have as I believe it comes included with both Windows and Adobe. I mention this because once you open it up, it will expect you to use the same fonts, or to replace them. The “layer style” text effects for the gold/silver text are built in, so any text added, or edited, will match perfectly.
Thank you for reading, and enjoy the map! :)
