Royalty & Revenue Splits

How Royalty & Revenue Splits Work on Heart of Daggers

Collaborating on a product? Heart of Daggers makes it easy to automatically split creator revenue between everyone involved, without needing to manually calculate or redistribute payments after each sale.

What are Revenue Splits?

Revenue Splits let the primary creator of a product share their creator earnings with other Heart of Daggers creators.

When creating or editing a product, simply add an additional creator using the PayPal email connected to their Heart of Daggers account, then choose the percentage of creator revenue they should receive.

You can add up to 5 additional creators to a product.

What percentage is being split?

Revenue Splits apply to the creator revenue pool, not the total amount paid by the customer.

Creators receive 85% of the product sale price, with Heart of Daggers retaining 15%.

Any percentages you assign to collaborators are taken from that creator revenue pool of 85%.

Can you give me an example?

All you had to do was ask :)

Imagine a product sells for $20 and has an 85% creator revenue pool.

The creators collectively receive $17.

If you give another creator a 25% revenue share, they receive:

$4.25

The primary creator automatically receives the remaining 75%:

$12.75

There’s no need to manually send their share later – Heart of Daggers keeps track of it automatically.

Does the primary creator need to set their own percentage?

No.

The primary creator automatically receives whatever percentage remains after the additional creator splits have been assigned.

For example, if you add:

  • Creator A — 20%
  • Creator B — 15%

The primary creator automatically receives the remaining 65% of the creator revenue pool.

Do additional creators need a Heart of Daggers account?

Yup.

When adding someone to a Revenue Split, their PayPal email must match the PayPal email connected to their Heart of Daggers creator account.

This lets us verify the creator and make sure their earnings are attributed to the right person.

What happens when the product goes on sale?

Revenue Splits are calculated from the actual amount the product sold for after discounts.

So if a $20 product is discounted to $15, the creator revenue pool and each creator's share are calculated from the $15 sale price.

This keeps every split proportional, regardless of sales or creator discount codes.

What about Pay What You Want products?

The same rules apply.

If someone chooses to pay $10 for a Pay What You Want product, creator earnings and Revenue Splits are calculated from that $10 purchase.

If the product is claimed for free or purchased for $0, there is no revenue to distribute.

How do payments work?

Each creator's share is recorded separately when the sale is completed and attributed directly to their Heart of Daggers account.

Once that revenue becomes eligible for payout, it can be sent directly to the creator's connected PayPal account.

That means collaborators don't need to rely on the primary creator to calculate royalties, keep spreadsheets, or forward payments manually.

Can the split add up to more than 100%?

No.

Additional creator shares can total up to 100% of the creator revenue pool. Heart of Daggers will prevent a product from being submitted if the percentages exceed that amount.

If additional creators receive the full 100%, the primary creator receives 0%.

Can I change the Revenue Split later?

Yes. Revenue Splits can be adjusted on the product for future sales.

Changes don't rewrite previous sales – each purchase is calculated using the Revenue Split attached to the product when that revenue is recorded.

Why did we build this?

TTRPG products are often collaborative. Writers, designers, artists and other creators shouldn't need to build their own accounting system just to release something together.

Revenue Splits are designed to make that collaboration easier.
