Tidekin

Ancestry

Tidekin are humanoids whose bodies are made of flesh and water. Descended from water elementals, tidekin possess finlike ears and webbing between their digits. The color of their skin, hair, and eyes reflects that of water’s many forms, with some exhibiting bright shades of aquas, greens, and seafoams like shallow rivers or tropical oceans, while others display dark blues and purples from the deepest oceans. For some, these colors shift beneath semitranslucent skin like waves. Tidekin might have water formations that adorn their heads like hair or waves that shift and move across their body. Instead of expressing emotions through tears, their water formations change with their emotional state, and they can purposefully or accidentally use their shifting colors or water formations as a method of nonverbal communication.

Tidekin are born as a small amount of water, such as a puddle or liquid orb. As children, they’re often kept in watertight containers such as bowls and bottles, and they tend to have a fluid appearance throughout their childhood until they gain a more solid humanoid form around adolescence. Adult tidekin range from 5 to 6½ feet in height, though their general body shape is influenced by the fluidity of water and might change, with some effort, over their approximately 300-year lifespan. When members of this ancestry die, they dissolve into water and flow away.
