About these subclasses

Blade Dancers are defined by rhythm rather than force. Their art is not about overpowering an enemy, but about reading mistakes, breaking timing, and deciding when a fight truly turns. Each subclass represents a different way of exploiting that rhythm once it slips.

Some Blade Dancers choose to end conflicts decisively. These dancers turn every missed strike against them into mounting momentum, storing precision and restraint until a single, perfectly timed attack releases everything at once. Their style is patient and lethal — enemies fall not because the dancer was faster, but because they struck at the wrong moment.

Others walk a more disruptive path. Instead of finishing fights quickly, they dismantle them. These Blade Dancers specialize in breaking balance, dragging foes into bad footing, forcing falls, hesitation, and panic. One mistake spreads into many, as enemies stumble over one another, lose control of their bodies, and exhaust themselves trying to recover. Victory comes not through bloodshed alone, but through collapse.

Together, these paths define the Blade Dancer’s philosophy:
combat is a rhythm, and once that rhythm breaks, the dancer decides how it ends.

Spellcast Trait: Agility

The Blade Dancer fights by listening, not striking. Every missed attack adds to a growing rhythm — a measure of timing, balance, and restrained violence. As ene

Foundation

Feel the Beat: You maintain a pool of Momentum Dice that represents the rhythm of the fight turning in your favor.
The size of each die is determined by your Tier: d4 at Tier 1, d6 at Tier 2, d8 at Tier 3, and d10 at Tier 4.
Your pool can hold a maximum of four dice at any time.

Drop It Like It’s Hot: When you successfully hit an enemy with a melee attack, you may spend any number of Momentum Dice from your pool.
Roll the spent dice and add the results as additional physical damage to the attack

Oops!… I Did It Again: Each time an attack against you fails, add one Momentum Die to your pool, up to the maximum.
These dice remain stored until you choose to release them on a successful attack.

Specialization

Under Pressure: When you release two or more Momentum Dice as part of a successful attack, choose one of the following effects:

  • Ignore one step of damage reduction applied to the attack, or

  • Immediately reposition yourself within Very Close range without provoking reactions.

This represents a controlled surge of force rather than reckless overextension.

Mastery

The Final Countdown: Once per session, when your Momentum Dice pool is full, you may declare The Final Countdown.
The next time you hit with a melee attack:

  • Spend all Momentum Dice in your pool,

  • Choose one of those dice to double its result, and

  • The attack’s damage cannot be reduced below Minor.

After resolving the attack, your Momentum Dice pool is cleared.

False Step

Spellcast Trait: Agility

A False Step Blade Dancer fights to unmake an opponent’s rhythm. Instead of striking for the kill, they exploit overextension and poor footing, turning missed a

Foundation

I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For: When a creature misses a melee attack against you, you may spend 1 Hope to immediately attempt a Takedown against that creature.

Make a melee attack roll using Agility:

  • On a success:

    • The target is Knocked Prone,

    • The target becomes temporarily Vulnerable, and

    • The target marks 1 Stress.

  • On a failure:

    • The target marks 1 Stress.

This reaction represents exploiting a moment of imbalance rather than brute force.

Specialization

Another One Bites the Dust: When you trigger False Step, the initial Takedown is made as a reaction roll using Agility.

After resolving the first Takedown, you may choose to extend the imbalance:

  • Mark 1 Stress to immediately attempt an additional Takedown against a different enemy within Very Close range.

  • This second attempt is also a reaction roll using Agility.

At Tier 4, you may mark an additional Stress to attempt a third Takedown against another different enemy within Very Close range.

Each target must be a different creature.

  • On a success:

    • The target is Knocked Prone,

    • Becomes temporarily Vulnerable, and

    • Marks 1 Stress.

  • On a failure:

    • The target marks 1 Stress.

Mastery

Everybody Falls: Once per session, declare No One Stands Still.
Until the end of the scene:

  • When a creature is Knocked Prone by your False Step or Chain Reaction, that creature cannot immediately remove the Prone condition.

  • The first time that creature attempts to stand up, move, or make an attack while Prone, it marks 1 Stress.

  • During this scene, the first additional Takedown you attempt as part of Chain Reaction does not require marking Stress.

This free Takedown does not increase the maximum number of targets you can affect.
