Environments and Player Knowledge

One thing that's been a slight hang-up for me on using Environments is the question of "How much should the Players know about the Environment write-up?"
Nothing at all? Roll to learn/observe parts of it? Just show them the PC-facing features? Show them the whole thing? I could see arguments for any of the approaches, but I'm not sure which is ultimately the best one.

I'm torn on this one as well sometimes. I'll definitely outright point out things that are dangerous but something less obvious like creature that will burst out of the ground to ensnare a player? I'll 100% hide that until the moment I spend a fear to reveal it. I will give the players the DC or TN for a scene though.

I have been telling my players about features of the environments to teach my players about the concept of how they work. I have also warned them that at some point I will not be sharing details but I wanted them to know how they worked. So far it hasn't lead to any meta gaming on their parts.

I'm very transparent with my players. Telling them environment features hasn't really come up yet but I would. I even tell them the difficulty of everything including adversaries because I see no benefit for it being a mystery
